Consisting of Kevin Truckenmiller, lead vocalist, guitarists Matt Kirby and Justin Bonhiver, bassist Droo Hastings, and drummer Brandon Lanier, Quietdrive has been touring nationally for the last three years promoting their debut release, When All That's Left Is You. Now, the Minneapolis-based band promises to deliver with their sophomore effort, Deliverance.
Having sold more than 60,000 albums and about 500,000 digital singles in the United States thus far, the immediately likeable,
down-to-earth Midwesterners have a vision to succeed,
a "quiet drive," that reflects a determination rarely encountered in the music scene today.
Despite production setbacks and a major label change, leaving Epic Records for the Militia Group in favor of more personal attention and priority, the group pursued recording an album Hastings described as "the record we've always wanted to make."
Conceptualized by Truckenmiller, the theme of Deliverance may be "far-reaching" Hastings said, describing the overall inspiration as an angel inhabiting the body of a human and upon withdrawing, is denied return to Heaven, having experienced sinful human actions.
On the band's website, Truckenmiller details, "Some days it means that the angel won't be saved … Other days the story would make me believe that deliverance was at hand."
Of the band, which is innately philosophical and deep-thinking in its creative endeavors, Hastings noted of the new project, "I think there's a natural evolution that every band goes through."
"We've grown up a lot, and I think that's very much reflected in this record … It's definitely a new chapter in the Quietdrive book, if you will."
Whatever the context, all of the group's catchy, talent-laced songs are infused with enough lyrical talent to give each one its own palpable personality.
While all members contribute to the songwriting, "Kevin's the master chef and each one of us throws our little ingredients in there," said Hastings, adding, "A good song is a good song … as long as [it's] well constructed and there's emotion and life behind it."
Quietdrive has taken advantage of internet developments such as podcasts and blogs to relate to fans on a more personal level.
Genuinely devoted and gracious to their ever-growing fan base, Hastings elaborated on the relationship saying, "It's always been a big priority for us. [Chatting with bands after a show] were always the most memorable experiences I had at concerts. That's something we've always wanted to do for our fans 'cause it was done for us."
In fact, the band even offers an option for fans to request a concert at their high school and during performances of "Birthday" invites an audience member on stage to play tambourine - efforts that will undoubtedly keep fans coming back time after time.
For Quietdrive, the New Year brings their ninth tour and first overseas voyage to the United Kingdom, a bizarre traveling schedule that leaves little time for the non-career portion of their lives.
Hastings said, "You're just going to have to sacrifice if you want to do this for a living," but asserted,
"As long as we can keep playing music every night and making people happy, then we're gonna be happy."
