Something Witchy This Way Comes: WGN America's Original Series "Salem"
April 2014
Last week on April 20th, cable network WGN America, previously known for its syndicated programming slate, premiered its first departure into scripted series, "Salem." Set in 17th Century Salem, Massachusetts during the infamous witch trials of 1692, the period drama features a talented cast including Shane West ("Nikita", A Walk to Remember), Janet Montgomery ("Made in Jersey", "Skins"), Ashley Madekwe ("Revenge"), and Seth Gabel ("Fringe", "Nip/Tuck").
American history has familiarized us with names of those accused and sentenced during the trials, and we and like Tituba, the voodoo woman accused and sentenced and Cotton Mather perhaps most known through Arthur Miller's The Crucible, are now vexing our TV screens and inviting us to join the jury Witch among them be the accused or accusers? Tune into the witching hour, Sundays at 1opm on WGN America. Writte and created by Brannon Braga and Adam Simon Set in the volatile world of 17th century Massachusetts, Salem explores what really fueled the town’s infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth cloaked behind the veil of this infamous period in American history. In Salem, witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem to be. The show, which centers on an epic romance wrapped around this explosive revelation, delivers a bold new vision of Salem – and an even bolder new vision of witches. The sets were constructed in Shreveport, Lousiana. Watch my interviews with the cast during the "Salem" TCA press day and get a glimpse at their characters, their favorite pop culture witches, and go-to spells! , and you'll soon be spellbound with "Salem."
